Ellu Bella Makar Sankranti special






Ellu bella is a traditional recipe for celebrating Sankranti/Pongal in Karnataka. Ellu Bella is a mixture of five main ingredients. It has sesame seeds, jaggery, dried coconut, peanuts and fried gram dal. There is a saying in Kannada that you should eat the mixture of sesame seeds and jaggery and speak only good things.

This mixture of sesame seeds jaggery with groundnut roasted gram and dry coconut is easy and healthy recipe. It is rich in proteins, minerals and vitamins. The sesame seeds are rich in antioxidants, protein and minerals. The jaggery is a natural sweetener and the groundnut roasted gram is a good source of protein. The dry coconut helps to improve the immunity and contains fiber, iron, calcium and copper. It is a very easy to prepare recipe and you can make it at home too.



INGREDIENTS:

Groundnut / peanuts - 1 cup
Roasted gram / chana dal - 1 cup
Jaggery / Gur - 1 cup
Dry coconut - 1 cup
Sesame seeds -1/2 cup

METHOD :

Roast groundnut/ Peanuts and remove the skin.
Cut jaggery and dry coconut into small pieces.

Heat frying pan and roast sesame seeds. Once it is roasted remove from pan. Keep aside and let it cool.

Add gram dal to pan and just warm it. Do not over roast. Just warm to remove moisture.

Dry roast dry coconut chunks just to remove the moisture colour of coconut shouldn't change.

Once all our roasted ingredients are totally cooled down take a mixing bowl and start mixing all the ingredients one by one. Mix it well.

Healthy and tasty Makar sankranti special Ellu Bella is ready.

TIP : 

Do not over roast gram dal and coconut.
You can increase or decrease ingredients quantity as per your choice.
I have added Mishri or Khadi Sakar (rock sugar) But it is optional.
You can also add candy cumins (optional)
