KOKAM/ SOL KADHI (CURRY)

 

Goa is famous for coconut trees, beaches, rivers and temples. A cuisine that is popular here is the kokum kadhi. This is a favourite dish among the locals and tourists.

Kokum is also known as garcinia indica. Kokum is a fruit having sour taste and is beneficial to health. It is rich in vitamin C and is an excellent source of antioxidants. It is also used to treat acidity, diabetes, indigestion, constipation and other stomach related ailments.

Kokum kadhi is a delicious and exotic kadhi made with Kokum and coconut. This spicy, tangy and slightly sweet kadhi is a beverage consumed everday in Goa. It is enjoyed as appetizer. It also tastes great with Goan parboiled rice. Many people drink sol kadi after eating a heavy meal in Goa.

3-4 servings.       Time :  20-30 mints

Ingredients

10-12 kokums
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1-2 green chillies
4-5 garlic pods
1/2 inch ginger
1 Tsp sugar
1 freshly grated coconut
taste salt as per taste

Method 

Soak kokum in half cup of warm water for minimum 20 minutes.

Grind freshly grated coconut along with green chilli, garlic, ginger and cumin seeds add half cup water or as require.

Squeeze and remove kokum out of the water you will get a thick concentrated kokum juice.

strain ground coconut mixture and extact milk. Adjust consistency by adding water how thick curry you want.

Add salt & sugar. Do check and adjust according to your taste.

This digestive and refreshing drink of goan cusine is ready to serve.
